Defining Creativity goes USA!
In November 2014 Wouter will visit New York (7-16) and San Francisco (17-24) to give lectures about creativity at creative companies, hubs and educations. The lectures cover parts of the theory discussed in Wouter’s book Defining Creativity that entered the US market in September.
Summary lecture
In his lecture Wouter covers many different aspects of creativity, using examples from the arts, humanities and sciences, intertwined with a personal story about the creative process of writing his book. His lecture explains how creativity starts with imagination, how it’s a combination of existing elements and how it’s always based on knowledge. He discusses how each domain has its own technical and cultural rules and experts who decide whether new ideas are allowed to enter. Wouter will also talk about problem solving, the importance of social interaction, personalities that enhance creativity, how creative insights work and the importance of the unconscious brain.
Asia Tour
In August Wouter already visited Shanghai and Singapore to give lectures at – among other places – Wieden+Kennedy, The Raffles Design Institute, BBH, Ogilvy One, JFDI (digital incubator), The Hub, and Ngee Ann Polytechnic University.
Fee
Wouter asks for a small, but voluntary fee for his lectures to finance his trip. Alternatively he would like to sell some signed copies of Defining Creativity after the lecture.
